Interim service — £119

The half-year check-up. Fresh oil, a new filter, and a proper look underneath so nothing quietly becomes expensive between full services. Parts and VAT included.

What’s in it

Thirty points, and four of them get written down as numbers

  • Engine oil drained and replaced to your manufacturer’s specification
  • New oil filter and sump washer
  • All fluid levels checked and topped: coolant, brake, power steering, screenwash
  • Tyre tread measured in millimetres on all four, plus pressures set
  • Brake pad and disc thickness measured, front and rear
  • Battery tested under load, with the reading recorded
  • Brake fluid moisture content tested as a percentage
  • Lights, wipers, horn and washers checked
  • Exhaust checked for leaks and security
  • Steering, suspension and driveshaft boots inspected on the ramp
  • Belts and hoses inspected for perishing
  • Underbody and brake pipes checked for corrosion
  • Wheel nuts torqued to specification
  • Service reminder reset, book stamped, invoice itemised

Measurements, not adjectives. “Brakes are getting low” tells you nothing. “Front pads 4.2 mm, replace around 3 mm, roughly 8,000 miles left” tells you when to budget for it. Everything measurable goes on the invoice as a number.

Questions

Interim service

Is an interim enough on its own?

Not for a full year. The usual rhythm is interim at six months, full at twelve. If you do under about 6,000 miles a year, one full service annually is fine.

Does £119 include parts?

Yes — oil, filter, sundries and VAT, for most cars taking up to five litres. Anything unusual gets quoted before we start, not added afterwards.

Will it keep my warranty?

For a manufacturer warranty you want the manufacturer schedule, which is what that page is for. An interim is a maintenance service, not a schedule item.
