It’s the single most common worry we hear, and it hasn’t been true for years. Block Exemption rules let you have scheduled servicing done at any competent independent garage without affecting the manufacturer warranty — provided the right parts and fluids to the right specification are used, and the work is documented.
The documentation is the bit that matters, so every invoice we produce carries:
- Date and exact mileage
- Part numbers for everything fitted
- Oil specification and manufacturer approval code, not just “5W-30”
- Which schedule item the work satisfies
- Anything you declined, recorded as declined
Where the dealer genuinely is the right answer: warranty repairs themselves, recall work and manufacturer software updates. We check for outstanding recalls at every service and tell you to go and get them done — they’re free, and we can’t do them.
And the one thing we won’t do: stamp a book for work we didn’t carry out. People ask. The answer is no.

Will it affect my warranty?
No, as long as correct parts and fluids are used and the work is recorded. That’s exactly why our invoices are so detailed.
How often should I service it?
Interim every six months or 6,000 miles; full every twelve months or 12,000 miles — unless your car’s own schedule says otherwise, in which case that wins.
Can I supply my own oil and filter?
Yes, at normal labour rates. We’ll check the oil actually carries the approval your engine needs before we pour it in, and tell you if it doesn’t.
Do you do a service and MOT together?
Yes, and it’s cheaper — £139 for MOT plus interim, £219 for MOT plus full. It also means anything found on the service gets fixed before the test.
