Nothing happens until you’ve seen the number
- You book, or drop the keys. Key safe by the office door for early drop-offs. Tell us the symptom, not the part you think it needs.
- We look and photograph. Split boot, weeping shock, corroded brake pipe — you see the picture, not an adjective.
- You get a written quote. Parts, labour, VAT, total. Approve the lot or approve half of it; both are fine.
- We do the work and write it down. Part numbers, torque figures and fluid specifications on the invoice. Old parts back if you want them.
This isn’t generosity, it’s the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Work must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time, and at a reasonable price where none was agreed in advance. Agreeing the price in advance is how you avoid the argument about what “reasonable” means. Ask any garage in Leeds to put it in writing first — watch what happens.
Five things a main dealer won’t tell you
- Servicing here doesn’t void your warranty. Block Exemption rules have allowed independent servicing for years, as long as the right parts and fluids are used and it’s recorded. We stamp the book and log the specifications.
- An MOT can’t legally cost more than £54.85 for a class 4 car. That cap hasn’t moved since 2010. We charge £34.85 and don’t pretend it’s a special offer.
- An advisory isn’t a repair order. We’ll tell you which advisories matter now, which can wait until next year, and which are just the tester being thorough.
- You can bring your own parts. We’ll fit them at normal labour rates. They won’t carry our warranty, and we’ll tell you if the part is wrong before we start.
- We turn work away. No bodywork, no tyres, no gearbox rebuilds, no remapping. You’ll get the name of someone who does it properly.

How much is an MOT?
The DVSA maximum for a class 4 car is £54.85 and hasn’t changed since 2010. Garages can charge less; we charge £34.85. If anyone quotes you more than £54.85 for a class 4 car, they’re charging above what the law allows.
When can I get it tested?
First MOT at three years from registration, then annually. You can test up to one calendar month minus a day before the current certificate runs out and keep the same renewal date — which is how you give yourself room for repairs without losing a month.
Is the retest free if it fails?
If you leave the car with us and we do the repairs, the partial retest within ten working days is free. Take it away and bring it back within ten working days and a partial retest applies. After ten working days, or at a different station, it’s a full test again. Full detail here.
Will servicing here affect my warranty?
No. Block Exemption means you can use any competent independent garage without affecting the manufacturer warranty, provided the correct parts and fluids are used and the work is recorded. We stamp the book and put part numbers and specifications on the invoice.
Do you quote before starting?
Always, in writing, with photographs. If we find something else mid-job we stop and ring you rather than deciding on your behalf.
Are prices inclusive of VAT?
Yes, every figure on this site includes VAT at 20%. The number you see is the number you pay.
